Reverse Skip Trace can return up to 3 persons for each phone number or email address you search. This article gives four checks that find the person you want. Use them in this order, because the first checks help the most.
1. Turn on the owner filter
If you look for the owner of a property, set options.propertyOwnersOnly to true. The API then returns only persons whose propertyOwner flag is true. Persons whose flag is false or null are left out, and they are not billed.
The filter runs before the 3-person limit. So it can return an owner that a search without the filter does not show.
propertyOwner reports a name match against the owners of record on the property linked to the person's highest-ranked address. true confirms a name match, not legal ownership. The flag says nothing about property that the person owns at another address.
2. Compare against alternate names
Each person has a name.akas array of other names, such as maiden names, married names, and short forms of the first name. When you compare a returned person with a name you already hold, compare against each entry in name.akas as well as name.full. A check against name.full only can miss the right person.
3. Cross-check the address
Each person has up to 3 ranked addresses. If you already hold an address for the contact, compare it with the person's addresses at every rank. An address match is stronger evidence than a name match.
When the API links a property to the person, the response also includes the owner names in property.owners, so you do not need a separate property lookup. The person's dob is one more field that you can compare.
4. Send the phone and the email as separate items
If you have both a phone number and an email address, put each one in its own item of the requests array, with its own requestId. Then compare the two result sets. A person in both results matches both inputs.
Do not put both in one item. When one item has both, the search returns persons who match either input, and the 3-person limit applies to that combined set. A person who matches only one input can be left out, even a property owner.
Billing counts the persons returned, and each item can return up to 3 persons. So two separate items can return and bill up to 6 persons, where one combined item returns at most 3. The owner filter usually reduces the number of persons that each item returns.
